Reverend Dr. Tom Hudspeth is the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Minister at Lovers Lane UMC.  He encouraged Rin and Peggy Key to pursue their desire to start a school for Deaf teens.  He has spent many hours advising, sharing his expertise, and working to make LLAD a reality.

Reverend Dr. Tom Hudspeth is the Lovers Lane minister for Deaf and Alpha ministries.  Appointed to Lovers Lane in 2001, he has:

  • ·   B.A. from Southwestern University, 1984
  • ·   Postgraduate Diploma from the University of Otago, New Zealand 1986
  • ·   Master of Divinity, Perkins School of Theology, Southern Methodist University, 1991
  • ·   Interned with the Oklahoma Conference Ministry with the Deaf (1989-90)
  • ·   Ordained elder in the United Methodist Church in 1993
  • ·   Earned a Doctor of Ministry in 2002 from Wesley Theological Seminary, Washington, D.C. with a Dissertation paper:  “American Sign Language as a Means of Grace”
  • ·   Pastor for Deaf and Alpha Ministries at Lovers Lane United Methodist Church, Dallas, Texas (2001 to present)
  • ·   President of the United Methodist Committee on Ministries with Deaf, Late Deafened, Hard of Hearing and Deaf-Blind People (2001-2008)
  • ·   Established a permanent Endowment Fund for the United Methodist Congress of the Deaf (in 1999)
  • ·   Participated in short term Deaf mission teams to Kenya (2002), Ecuador (2003 & 2004), Honduras (2004 & 2005), as well as lead Deaf Teen mission teams to Mexico (2006 & 2007)
  • ·   Serves on the Board of New Life Deaf Ministry of Tegucigalpa, Honduras
  • ·   Board of the Methodist Mission Home in San Antonio, Texas
